A few weeks ago, we dropped our son off at Texas A&M for his sophomore year. My son was excited to get back to college. He had his Spring semester cut short and had to move back in with mom and dad and finish up his Freshman year online as did so many other students based on Covid.
College – A Whole Life Ahead of You

I remember the good old college days. So many new experiences. So much to learn. So many people to meet. A whole life ahead of you and not sure exactly what you will end up doing. Both exciting and scary! And lots and lots of fun!
My son is studying Engineering. He’s much smarter than his ‘old man’ as he would call me. He’s also very responsible yet will take risks. It’s kind of a weird mix.
I was focused on the social life and doing my fair share of partying in college. He’s decided he wants to go another route and avoid the party scene. He’s still very social, he just doesn’t see the point in the whole party scene. I respect him for that.
Started His Own Company In High School

In high school, he started his own company, reselling limited edition sneakers. The first pair he bought cost him like $250. I told him he was crazy, he was about to learn a lesson and he had most likely just bought the most expensive pair of sneakers he’s ever purchased. He proved me wrong! Not the first time and I’m sure it won’t be the last! He went on to sell that pair of sneakers for like $550. Incredible! A $300 profit before commissions and shipping and handling. He went on to buy and sell sneakers for several years and found a way to do it very profitably.
One thing he did was pay to be a part of an online community that shared with one another when the limited edition sneakers would come available for purchase. He saw the value in paying money to get first hand knowledge and knew that the information he paid for would result in him becoming more profitable. He also saw the value of surrounding himself with like minded people and the value in educating himself.
