As many of you know, I started a podcast. On the podcast, I ask many of the guests “how can someone get involved in their first syndication deal as a passive investor.” Almost every guest starts by saying “get educated.” So how do you get educated?
How Do You Get Educated?

Listen To Podcasts
I try and bring on great, experienced investors to help educate you. When I was starting out, I listened to a few multifamily podcasts to help me learn including;
- Joe Fairless
- Rod Khleif
- Old Capital
Since getting involved in real estate, I’ve been introduced to so many other real estate podcasts and I’ve been a guest on many of them. Podcasts are a great way to learn from others.
Read Books
I read many books on real estate investing. Some of the authors that I read when I was getting started included;
- Robert Kiyosaki
- David Lindahl
- Steve Berges
- Paul Moore
- Lance Edwards
- Jake & Gino
After getting plugged in with other real estate investors, I was introduced to more authors including;
- Ken McElroy
- Tom Wheelwright
- Joe Fairless
Network With Other Like-Minded People

In addition to listening to podcasts and reading books, I would highly recommend getting out and meeting people in person. I understand this is difficult in the times of Covid that we are living in but look for face to face meetings to start opening back up at some point.
So where can you actually meet people?
Attend conferences and meetup groups.
There is an app you can download on your phone called “Meetup.” Simply enter “multifamily investing” or “apartment investing” in the search field and most major metropolitan markets will have free multifamily meetup groups in your area. Attend these meetings and you will start to develop relationships with others in the industry, you will learn, and become more confident.
There are also many multifamily conferences you can attend. Some of the multifamily focused conferences include;
- Brad Sumrok
- Joe Fairless
- Rod Khleif
- Jake & Gino
These conferences are a great way to meet many of the syndicators, learn more about these investments and meet and network with other passive investors.
Why do I share this story with you?
I think it’s smart to advise others to get educated. When I was first starting out, I didn’t know where to turn to get educated so I wanted to share some resources with you.
