How Doubt Kills Mores Dreams Than Failure Ever Will

Have you ever considered the impact of self doubt in your head vs failure?

This week, John Monteiro, a friend in the multifamily space, posted a sign that read “Doubt Kills More Dreams Than Failure Ever Will.” That’s a powerful statement. That’s a powerful thought to consider. We all have self doubt in our head. What’s yours? What are you holding back from trying because you are afraid of failing?

Yes it’s absolutely scary! It’s scary to try new things. It’s scary to take a chance. We all have one life to live so I say “take that chance.” You are worth it! You have value and more times than not you will find a way to succeed if you have enough persistence and determination. You don’t realize it now but there are so many others that you can help once you learn to take a chance and find success.

Starting My Business

I started a business back in 2007 trading loan portfolios between banks. People ask me what was the scariest part of starting my own business. I tell them it was signing the lease to the office space. This surprises many people. They come back and ask “was it a long-term lease? Was it a big financial obligation? I don’t get it. Why was this the scariest part?”

I explain that once I signed the lease, I had to tell my family, friends, ex colleagues, customers, etc that I was officially in business. From that point on I was either going to succeed or fail. There was no more hiding.

What I found was that after a few days of making calls, I was doing the same thing I used to do as an employee yet all of the profit flowed back into the business vs receiving a commission on sales. That fear that delayed me and almost held me back from getting started is real but I’ve come to learn that you need to learn to push past that fear.

I still own that business. Since then I’ve gone on to invest in multifamily, start a podcast and start a YouTube channel. All these things were new and scary but I had the experience of pushing past that fear when I started my business a long time ago and I’m so thankful I took the chance.

Why do I share this story with you?

I share this because I want each of you to learn from other successful investors in the industry. I want each of you to reach your goals and your dreams. I want you to learn to push past the fear.

Wealth creation through real estate provided me with a new passion to get the word out and let others know that they have an alternative to investing in the stock market.

If I can inspire and educate just one person to take action that results in life changing wealth creation then the work to launch and grow this podcast is well worth the effort.
